01 Cherry trees Leigh banks  Toddler Gardening  Graveyard  roses

St Mary's Buckland is a focal point in our village, opposite the village green and pond.  The churchyard surrounds the church and although it contains over 300 gravestones, new burials can still be accommodated.    The aesthetics of a neat graveyard are appreciated not only by the congregation, but also by village residents and visitors.

Our graveyard benefits from the following features:

  • six flowering cherry trees on the north boundary
  • over 60 commemorative standard roses lining the paths
  • a small wildflower patch -  Buckland Toddler Group helped spread the seeds in 2024!
  • a bank of mature yew trees on the south boundary
  • a 150-metre beech hedge on the east boundary
The grass is cut regularly by a contractor.  Tasks such as pruning, spraying and dead-heading the roses, weeding, fertilising and hedge cutting are done by a small team of volunteers.  We welcome any new pairs of hands to help out on an occasional basis.  Gardening is good for you!
